Daegu (old spelling: Taegu) is near the center of South Korea and throughout Korea's history has served as a major transportation junction. The city has an international airport and a stop on the KTX high-speed train. As such, it makes a good base for exploring many nearby tourist areas, including Gyeongju, Andong, and Haein-sa Temple. The 2011 World Championships in Athletics are scheduled to be held in Daegu. Several U.S. Military bases are located in Daegu, including Camp Walker, Camp Henry, and Camp George.
